Langwood Challenge Course

High Ropes | Initiative Activities | Schedule Your Group Where is Langwood Education Center?

Come Meet the Challenge!

Adventure awaits you at Langwood Education Center.  Can you imagine yourself walking across a log suspended 30 feet in the air?  If you would like to give it a try, you can!  School groups, businesses, scouts, athletic teams, and many other groups will want to take advantage of this opportunity.  The Louisa County Conservation Board staff can tailor a program to meet your specific goals.

Programs Can Focus On:

  • Improving communication
  • Team building
  • Problem-solving skills

  • Leadership development
  • Confidence building
  • Recreation

High Ropes

High rope elements take participants 30 feet off the ground, through a series of utility poles, ropes, and cables.

Participants are kept safe by wearing a helmet and a harness attached to a dynamic belay rope which is also attached to a trained belayer on the ground.

The course at Langwood consists of 5 traversing elements and 2 zip lines.  High rope elements include:

  • Burma Bridge
  • Multi-vine
  • Log
  • Two-line Bridge
  • Sky Chair

Initiative Activities

Initiative activities force the group to work as a team to solve a problem presented by the facilitator.  Participants are challenged to negotiate a solution to an activity safely without having the facilitator tell them how to solve the problem.  Communication, leadership skills and teamwork are a necessity for achieving success.  Spotting is taught and used for safety for these activities.

Initiative activities are an important step in team building.  Processing takes place after each activity for the group to reflect on how well they communicated, worked together and got the problem solved.  Examples include the following:

  • Spider's Web (as seen at right)
  • Minefield
  • Magic Carpet

Schedule Your Group Now

We can tailor a program to fit your needs.  You can schedule your group for a whole day with both high ropes and initiative activities or for a half day with just one of the components.

Cost depends on the programming we provide and the size of your group. Call or email the LCCB for an estimate.
